I may have touched upon this in the past, but I will be running a 5K in June as part of the annual Elvis Fest here in Tupelo. The race takes place on 6/4 at Veterans Park. This Sunday I begin my official 6 week 5K training. I have set it up so that the conclusion of the 6 week program is race day.
So why would I take up a 5K run considering I wasn’t even walking a treadmill to start the year? Because I know I can do it! I also want to show people that just because they are not working out or exercising now, in 6 months you can run a 5K. You can put together a plan to be at your dream weight in 6 months, 1 year, or 2-3 years, it can be achieved if you are committed to it and want it. You don’t have to be on The Biggest Loser to well become a big loser of weight!
Most of all, I want to be around for a long time to not only see my future children grow up, but to see their children grow up too. I want to be running 5K’s, 10K’s, maybe even marathons in my 60’s and 70’s. I want to do a lot of things in the second half of my life, but if I don’t take care of the healthy part, then that second half may not be as long as the first and who knows, if I am lucky enough with my health, the second half maybe longer than the first half…imagine the possibilities!
I hope to put together a weekly blog about my 5K training update within this space. This is an exciting time in my life and I want to share it with as many people as I can.
